Playing Catch Up

I realized earlier today that I have things I've been meaning to share, so this will be a fairly random post. You've been warned. Continue reading at your own attention span's risk.

We've been having some really good times lately - in every way - familially, couple-ly, financially, Will's job-ily, emotionally, etc. Things finally feel like they're starting to turn in our favor and it's exciting. Will's starting to do well at work and I'm so proud of him. And the kids! Oh, the kids. They are doing really well. Juliana is full of personality and I really love to see her and Everett play together. We have a morning routine that we all seem to enjoy. It goes a little like this:

1) Juliana begins to cry, signalling she is finished with her morning nap and would we please come and get her already.
2) Everett gasps excitedly, "Jew-i-ya's awake! Jew-i-ya's awake!" At which point we both stomp very noisily up the stairs all the while Everett's yelling, "We're coming Jew-i-ya, we're coming!"
3) Everett busts open the door and we see Juliana standing in her crib, smiling at us, usually with some form of very fine bedhead.
4) Next comes any combination of changing J's poopy diaper (she's like clockwork), getting her dressed, and/or getting Everett dressed.
5) Everett promptly goes into the closet (where their toy box is stored), drags it to the center of the floor and proceeds to completely dump it out.
6) Inevitably, the first toy Juliana reaches for is, of course, the one toy Everett wants to play with, so he takes it from her and she begins to fuss.
7) With my amazing Mom skills, diaster is averted as I somehow convince Everett that he really wants to play with a different toy, Juliana is pacified and playtime resumes.
8) I put the gate up at the top of the stairs and enjoy a relatively fuss-free shower. I can then get dressed all the while the kids are STILL PLAYING WITH THEIR TOYS AND EACH OTHER! Does this sound like close to heaven to anyone else?
*******************************************************
I finally got Juliana to the doctor for her nine month checkup. Our gal is tipping the scales at 21.5 pounds (around the 75th percentile) and measuring 30 inches long (around the 95th percentile). I so, so, so hope she gets a lot of her dad's height. I always wanted to be 5'7", just like my 7th grade Social Studies teacher, Mrs. Brantley. She seemed so tall and beautiful that I knew if I could only be 5'7" just like her, oh how my life would be complete. Little did I know that 7th grade would be the last time I grew vertically. And here I am, eternally stuck at 5'5". If my daughter could grow to be at least 5'7" I think I could die a happy woman.
********************************************************

We finally got a booster seat for Juliana and it is so cute to have both the kids sitting at the table. Juliana has shunned baby food like a bad habit, so she is now the queen of bananas, egg whites, cheese, applesauce, strawberries, olives, bread, mini-Nilla wafers, goldfish, pb and j's, cucumbers, pancakes and bagels. I'd forgotten just how messy little ones first learning to self-feed can be. Yes, there's always quite a mess after she finishes eating. And unfortunately, it's not all just on the floor.

And though they don't look like it, they do actually enjoy being at the table together.

One of the things I love about Will is how hands-on he is as a dad. He tries things with both the kids that I either don't think about or think will be too much of a pain. Like baking with Everett. A couple of weeks ago Will decided that he and Everett would bake some chocolate chip cookies together. Once Everett figured out what was going on he was THRILLED to help Dad. Will let Everett measure and stir and it's seriously all Everett can talk about. "I make cookies with Dad." Repeated about 50 times a day. Every day. I'm not kidding.

But it was really cute and so fun to see Everett get so excited about something. Baking cookies with Dad is now their own thing, which I am more than happy to relinquish to Will.

This is the smile of a little boy so excited he couldn't/wouldn't go to sleep until 10 o'clock that night. Joy!

Everett must have enjoyed the cooking baking experience so much so that later that week as we were driving in the car and stopped at a red light, he spotted a "really BIG cookie". Keeping dreaming son!

I got a new swimsuit! After being inspired by how cute my friend, Kim, looked in her Modbe suit, I got online and got one for myself. I got this top, but I paired it with a red bottom. It came in the mail today and I'll admit, I was a little nervous about how it would fit. But nervous I needn't be! Because it is cute and sassy - just like any gal likes to feel in her swimsuit. So thank you Kim for getting a Modbe suit and posting a picture on your blog. And thank you Modbe for designing and selling cute swimsuits. I couldn't have looked halfway decent in a swimsuit without you!

And finally, I just have to say that Will is pretty awesome. Unknown to most, Will is a fan of the theater. He acted some in high school (in addition to playing football, wrestling and playing the cello in orchestra. I know, my own modern-day Renaissance man, right?) and actually won Best Actor in State his senior year. Anyway, we went to a couple of musicals when we were dating and engaged, but since we've been married we just haven't been able to enjoy the arts as much as we would've liked.

When Wicked came here a couple of years ago we weren't able to go. I decided to read the book, that maybe that would satisfy my desire, but let me tell you, it didn't. I just didn't get that book. It was weird. And long. And a little boring. But I've heard the musical is a million times better. So ever since we missed it the first time, I've been dying to see it. Also, Will's birthday is next Friday and we were talking about what he might like to do to celebrate.

So imagine my surprise when he came home today and told me that not only would we be going to Wicked in October (YES!), but we were going to celebrate his birthday by going to Les Miserables in September (double YES!). Seriously - YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! Will, it's true, you are pretty awesome.

bring on the theater girlfriend! i didn't know you were into musicals. thats cool that you get to go to 2 in the next few months. i think its really fun getting dresssed up and going for a "night out on the town."
you two little ones are as cute as ever. will must have a lot of patience to bake cookies with a 3 year old. kuddos to him!

wow!! so much to comment on it might inspire a little phone call at some point today.

i would have to agree about kids playing with their toys and each other to be heaven. once in a blue moon it happens over here and it makes me feel like i'm succeeding as a parent. and major kuddos to will. i don't think i've ever in my life seen scott make cookies -- much less with the children.

and thats awesome about the musical tickets!!!! i think you will love wicked. from what i hear the book is practically nothing like the musical. i think it even says on the playbill that the musical is "inspired" by the book, not necessarily even "based" on the book. nevertheless, i'm sure you will love it. i thought it was so much fun.

whew. okay i think i'm done commenting for now. oh and of course, your kids are so cute! i can't believe juliana's almost 1! that's crazy!!!

Wicked is AWESOME!! You will absolutely love it. And that's so funny you got that swimsuit from Modbe because I was just looking at it last night and wondering if it would be as cute on me as it looks on the model...

I ordered my red Modbe suit a couple of months ago and LOVE it and always get compliments on it - to the point that I'm tempted to order a second suit now!

I think Juliana can rival Ellie in the weight area right now!

And those musicals will both be awesome! I love them both. I haven't succeded in getting Rob to take me to any of them yet but they've been fun girl's nights with my friends. :)

Yea, we're going to Wicked too - can't wait! I've been bummed about it for years...I actually had tickets for opening night when it opened in NYC (when I was a nanny) and production got pushed back a week so our tix were refunded.
It better be good!

You are VERY lucky!! Ben has ZERO interest in theater and balks at tickets prices. So I only go if I have a friend who is in the same boat. Which is fine. But how fun that you two are going to not just one, but two musicals this fall!!

And I love reading your morning routine. It does sound like heaven!! I only hope this too will be my life, next summer when there are two little ones.

I am so excited that you got a Modbe swimsuit and that I was your inspiration. Tell me that you love it!! I'm sure you look fabulous in it. My husband is sitting here right next to me saying he can't believe other people would go out and buy that same style of swimsuit because he thinks it is ugly and only someone from the 50's should be wearing it.

Thanks for all the great updates. I just love reading your blog. My parents and Cat are going to Wicked and Les Mis, too. Thanks for the Modbe link. They have really cute suits.

I got the same swimsuit in sea foam green. It is soooo cute!!!!! I am hoping they will go on supersale and I can get a couple for next summer. We go swimming every day around here...

Anyway, my sisters and I are all various sizes and we all have the same suit and we ALL LOOK CUTE in it! It is the best suit in the whole wide world. (I have strong feelings about this suit, can you tell?)
